The Memory of Home

Filed under: Blog — Kristen @ 7:37 pm

This world you seem to live in is not home to you.  And somewhere in your mind you know that this is true.  A memory of home keeps haunting you, as if there were a place that called you to return, although you do not recognize the voice, nor what it is the voice reminds you of.  Yet still you feel an alien here, from somewhere all unknown.  Nothing so definite that you could say with certainty you are an exile here.  Just a persistent feeling, sometimes not more than a tiny throb, at other times hardly remembered, actively dismissed, but surely to return to mind again.

No one but knows whereof we speak.  Yet some try to put by their suffering in games they play to occupy their time, and keep their sadness from them.  Others will deny that they are sad, and do not recognize their tears at all.  Still others will maintain that what we speak of is illusion, not to be considered more than but a dream.  Yet who, in simple honesty, without defensiveness and self-deception, would deny he understands the words we speak?

We speak today for everyone who walks this world, for he is not at home.  He goes uncertainly about in endless search, seeking in darkness what he cannot find; not recognizing what it is he seeks.  A thousand homes he makes, yet none contents his restless mind.  He does not understand he builds in vain.  The home he seeks cannot be made by him.  There is no substitute for Heaven.  All he ever made was hell.

-A Course in Miracles, Lesson 182

Living in the River of Grace

Filed under: Blog — Kristen @ 6:43 pm

Like a flame that burns in silence, like a perfume that rises straight upward without wavering, my Love goes to Thee; and like the child who does not reason and has no care, I trust myself to Thee that Thy Will may be done, that Thy Light may manifest, Thy Peace radiate, Thy Love cover the world.  When Thou willest I shall be in Thee, Thyself, and there shall be no more anydistinction;  I await that blessed hour without impatience of any kind, letting myself flow irresistibly toward it as a peaceful stream flows toward the boundless ocean.

Thy Peace is in me, and in that Peace I see Thee alone present in everything with the calm of Eternity.

What is Enlightenment?

Filed under: Blog — Kristen @ 5:26 pm

With so much emphasis these days on “enlightenment,” perhaps it would serve to clarify what exactly that means.  First, here is a brief definition from the dictionary:

en⋅light⋅en⋅ment
Show Spelled Pronunciation [en-lahyt-n-muh nt]

–noun

1.    the act of enlightening.
2.    the state of being enlightened: to live in spiritual enlightenment.
3.    (usually initial capital letter ) Buddhism, Hinduism. PRAJNA.
4.    the Enlightenment, a philosophical movement of the 18th century, characterized by belief in the power of human reason and by innovations in political, religious, and educational doctrine.

Origin:
1660–70; ENLIGHTEN + -MENT

Ok, so how does THAT help us…especially if we were born in a western reference?  Not much!  Without a direct experience of that state described in #2, it is just another concept, empty of any real meaning.  Thankfully we have been given a very personal guide to bring about that universal experience very rapidly for anyone who sincerely wants it.  In case you have not yet heard of it, it is called A Course in Miracles, and is often referred to by awakened Eastern Masters as “the Vedanta of the west.”  Here is some illuminating clarity from our Course, in our own language, regarding the experience of  “en-LIGHT-enment,” beginning with the idea of “Light” from which it originates:

“And what is Light except the resolution, born of peace of all your conflicts and mistaken thoughts into one concept that is wholly True?  True light that makes true vision possible is not the light the body’s eyes behold.  It is a state of mind that has become so unified that darkness cannot be perceived at all.  And thus what is the same is seen as one, while what is not the same remains unnoticed, for it is not there.

This is the light that shows no opposites, and vision, being healed, has power to heal.  This is the light that brings your peace of mind to other minds, to share it and be glad that they are one with you and with themselves.  This is the light that heals because it brings single perception, based upon one frame of reference, from which one meaning comes.”

-A Course In Miracles, Lesson 108

What a clear and refreshing new perspective!  Now one more important point to clarify, that is often misunderstood, is that this experience does not take time.  In other words you need not struggle to achieve a future experience of enlightenment.  In fact, if you keep looking for it “later on” or in your “next lifetime”, you are sure to miss it entirely. That is because it is available to you right here and now, and only requires a little willingness and a slight reallignment of your mind.

If you are desiring this experience now, and would like some very personal help to awaken and become constant in the awareness of your true eternal Self, here is an amazing new online correspondence course that is specifically for that purpose:

60 Days to Free Your Mind:  The First Sixty Lessons of A Course in Miracles

“Why wait for Heaven? Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes.  The light is in them now.  Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all.  Light is not of the world, yet you who bear the light in you are alien here as well.  The light came with you from your native home, and stayed with you because it is your own.  It is the only thing you bring with you from Him Who is your Source.  It shines in you because it lights your home, and leads you back to where it came from and you are at home.”
